IDSA Awards
In July 2006, Davison Design and Development earned two Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). The IDEA is a prestigious award in the design community cosponsored by BusinessWeek magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America. For us, it's the Academy Awards of design, and to see two products that I cared so much about win was great; however, we hope it's just the start of more wins in the future.
In the consumer products category, the BikeBoard Company's line of BikeBoards, designed by our staff at Davison, won a bronze award. We created a line starting with a cruiser, designed with the casual user in mind, and then created a freestyle BikeBoard for the stunt-oriented action sports crowd. Following these two were the mini and the tyke, both created for a younger consumer with different needs. The cruiser was featured on BusinessWeekend, BusinessWeek's TV show. It was also featured in the July 10 issue of BusinessWeek as one of the IDEA highlights.
Earning a silver in the design explorations category was the Hover Creeper, a corporate product we designed for the nation's largest automotive creeper manufacturer. From early concepts, I knew this would be a successful product. While we won an award for its three dimensional concept, we have prototyped and tested the device. I hope to see it on the market in the not-so-distant future. Eliminating the need for wheels, this product will truly revolutionize automotive garages forever with compressed air technology refined here in our labs.
As well as these two wins, it wasn't more than 10 years ago that we won an IDEA for the Oil Filter Gripper, a product we developed for a client to help the removal of oil filters.
